This cartoon hit several notes with me, so I chose it. I grew up with a mother who somehow managed to teach me to love healthy food; fresh vegetables, fruit, homemade dinners rather that processed junk. We never worried about e coli or salmonella etc. probably because we grew much of what we ate or got it from friends and family. Well, actually, it was because it just wasn't a prominent concern in those days.
This cartoon is using sarcasm to indicate that junk food is safer than healthy food because of the dangerous bacteria and so forth that is becoming so common. Also, if you watched the movie "Wally", it also alludes to Twinkies lasting FOREVER. When we saw that part of the movie, we laughed relentlessly! It is an unfortunate and hysterical truth.
HA HA HA HA!! I just barely started eating less junk food, and more good food, and I feel sooooo much better. my new slogan, "life runs better on organics". I noticed that alot of issues surrounding health in the United States dealt with diet. Funny how when other countries can be starving, 30% of adults Americans are obese. Good post eh! After doing this assignment, I realize how talented and clever cartoonists can be.
ReplyDeleteI must say that I strongly agree with you, and by the way, I love the cartoon you chose. I do see people eating a lot more processed food and many companies try to do almost exactly what this Dr. is doing. Trying to make the product look healthy. A good example is cereal bars like nutrigrain and so forth. They make it seem like its all fruit and whole hoats when in fact it is a bunch of processed grain and sugar! REDICULOUS! I am very scared for those who are not educated on good eating habits and how there kids will turn out.. YIKES! :/
ReplyDeleteI really like this cartoon! It is making a really good point in a funny way. We have become so suspicious of food poisonings and bacteria now days. I commend your mom for creating a love of good healthy foods in your family. With all the processed stuff out there it's important to know how to take care of yourself. Along the lines of what Becka is saying, kids need to learn and develop healthy habits now. The obesity rate is already too high, I can't imagine the future with even more obese people because they didn't learn how to take care of themselves when they were younger.
