I particularly liked the statement made by this illustration. So often we find that the people making the rules are not the ones who are subject to living with them. Unfortunately, when governments and other such agencies inflict their "plans" on us, they themselves do not actually live within the standards they've set for the rest of us.
My interpretation of this cartoon depicts Uncle Sam as the people who comprise the government. He is exaggerated in size to depict that he is well and fine on HIS health care plan, while the other old, broke and sick people are not well and have little options for help. I don't know if you can see the little "Kilroy" at the top corner of the bench says, "Sam, of course, gets congressional health care."
I like what you said in the second sentence. It's true that often the people who make the rules don't have to follow them, and they wouldn't want to if they had to. It hardly seems fair that they don't have to live with these decisions they make for us. It seems if they would live by the rules they set, they would know how to make the system better.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you explained this cartoon very diplomatic of you. great job.
ReplyDeleteI think this cartoon shows alot of how many people in our country are feeling right now. It is also a very hot topic with the new presidential elections and all. I am very curious to see what ends up happening! However, it does seem that the politicians have great health insurance where some of us "others" are pretty much left in the dark and cold. Like we discussed in class, the artist uses enlargements to show some symbolism. Lincoln is larger then the other... this shows authority and a maybe even a higher class level. Hmm..somethin to think about! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about HMO's, DYI's, or anything about medical billing; but one thing I do know is that medical care costs way too much. I'm not sure i'm entirely in favor of privatized health care, or if I like the idea of social health care. Would there be a way to level out the playing field for government workers AND citizens? if so, I think that's the way for us to go.
